After reporting a highly successful end to 2024, Netflix is increasing the cost of its subscriptions.

Netflix’s standard plan-- the plan without ads-- will go from $15.49 to $17.99 per month, the streaming service announced. A premium subscription with no ads will run customers $24.99 a month. The cost of adding an extra member to a primary account is increasing from $7.99 to $8.99 per month, reports Variety.

In its fourth-quarter earnings report, the streaming giant disclosed it added 19 million new subscribers worldwide during the last few months of 2024- it’s biggest subscriber gain in history. The increase was driven by widespread interest in live sporting events like Christmas Day NFL games and a prize fight between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul in November, reports The Hill.

Despite widely ridiculed technical difficulties while streaming the Tyson/ Paul fight in 2024, Netflix will continue to push further into the live entertainment and consumer experience space, projecting revenue to reach more than $43 billion in 2025.

One of the streaming giant’s top priorities: broadening its partnership with the NFL.

“So if there was a path where we can actually make the economics work for both us and the League, we certainly would explore,” Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos said during an investor call this week. “But right now, we believe that the live events business is where we really want to be and sports is a very important part of that but it is a part of that expansion.”

Netflix isn’t the only streaming giant raising its prices in 2025. Last year, YouTube TV announced it would increase rates from $72.99 to $82.99 per month to “keep up with the rising cost of content.”
